Hot, dry, and humid summers are becoming the norm with heat waves becoming more common. Without mother nature providing rainfall it can cause permanent damages to even the healthiest yards. It’s up to the homeowner to water and keep your yard healthy.
Watering
Water the yard in the morning. This helps prepare your grass for the upcoming heat. If you decide not to water, no problem, your grass is intended to stop growing, turn brown, and go dormant as it naturally goes into protection mode. If it hasn’t rained in a couple of weeks – you might want to give your grass a watering for 20 minutes in the morning 2-3 times a week. This moisture can be enough to help protect it during heat waves and prevent damage or diseases.
Grass Height
Longer the grass the better. Grass height should be maintained at 3-4 inches throughout the hot summer months. We recommend you adjust your mower setting to the highest setting. Longer grass promotes a healthy lawn with strong roots. Tall grass blades allow for increased photosynthesis leading to a strong root system. Longer grass traps in moisture that can translate to a more resilient lawn that can withstand drought and stresses.
